Back to School Finds!

Ahhhh, Target how do I love thee, let me count the ways!

Let's begin with the mini magnetic dry erase erasers.  They are 2 to a package, so I bought 12 packages!  (This is my middle daughter, a future teacher, holding up the goodies.)

On to my f-a-v-o-r-i-t-e section of the store, you know where I'm talking about.... the school supplies!  I found colored composition notebooks, so I bought 25 blue ones and middle daughter bought 25 green ones.  My Target has a limit of 25 on items, oh no!  I should have brought daughter three to help too, there's always next time.

I went crazy for dry erase markers.  Expo makers were on sale 4 for $2.50.  I don't know about you, but my kids NEVER bring dry erase markers.  I think it's because they are expensive, and parents don't realize how much we use them.  I bought 8 packages.  Four packages in traditional colors and four packages in cool, hip colors.  I stopped by Michael's on the way home, because I was so excited to try out a Pinterest inspired project.  Yep, I hot glued a pom pom onto the top for an instant eraser!  (I guess my theme for the day was erasers.)

I debated on buying crayons, but decided I would try to wait until I got my classroom budget.  In the past our principal has given us $100 to spend on our classroom. I am praying that we will still get some money.  Kansas is having some serious education finance issues, so I would be sad to see the money for our classrooms disappear.  I am curious, do other principals give out money for teachers to spend on classrooms?  How much?

Have a super day!

  1. Kim,
Yesterday I returned from vacation and what's the first thing I did? Ran to Target and Walmart to check out their school supplies! They came out while I was gone! Today I plan to visit Staples too!
I teach in Arizona, and education is financilly in serious trouble too. Our district has to portion out money for supplies though, because in Arizona we are BY LAW, not allowed to require students to bring anything in.
I am new to the land of blogging this summer - and just started my own. Come visit!

  2. I love the marker idea! I never would have thought to glue pom poms to the ends!
We used to get $200 to spend from an approved catalog, but we had to write everything up and submit it for our secretary to order. We haven't gotten anything for the past few years. :(

I'm a new follower...I found you through the new blogger linky!

  3. I love the pom-poms on the ends of the dry erase markers! I also saw it on Pinterest and have wanted to try it! Did it take long? Did you just use a hot glue gun?

  4. LOL... I saw that same pin on Pinterest and can't wait to make them! I think all teachers love Target. My favorite thing to do is walk along the borders of the aisles where they have there 30% off items.

  6. Hi, I tried the pom pom idea, unfortunately the poms didn't last too long. I would love your suggestions or comments on how they have worked for you.

    Love your blog

  7. Great idea. My only concern is that the tops get away from you because you can't put them on the end when using the markers. I keep plenty of small pieces of felt in a basket (next to my basket of markers) and they work great. The felt is inexpensive and can also be washed by placing into a soapy bin of warm water, squishing the pieces around, rinsing them in warm water and then laying them flat between pieces of paper towel to soak the remaining water out. I also make writing bags by placing a small white board, a marker, and a piece of felt into a ziploc bag. When we are learning a new letter, each child has a writing bag and practices writing the new letter, holding it up to show each other as a group, erasing, and then trying again. Also do this with numbers.
